The
Huntingdon County Heritage Committee was created in 1990, as part
of a nine-county effort encouraged by the Southwestern
Pennsylvania Heritage Preservation Commission. The Committee's
original purpose was to develop a County Heritage Plan, which was
completed in 1995. The Committee now works to promote the goals
and projects included in the plan. It also brings together at its
meetings various organizations and individuals involved in
heritage events and activities in order to facilitate
communication and cooperation among them.
The
Heritage Committee is funded by the Huntingdon County
Commissioners and administered by the Huntingdon County Historical
Society. Richard Stahl, director of the Huntingdon
County Planning
Office, and Sandy Carowick, director of the
Huntingdon County
Historical Society, are co-chairs of the committee. The group
meets quarterly, usually in the Historical Society’s exhibit
gallery. To be added to the mailing list to receive meeting
notices, call 814-643-5449.
