The Huntingdon County Transportation Society was organized in 1988. Its goal is to preserve the transportation heritage of Huntingdon County, as well as the state of Pennsylvania.  The primary focus of their collection at this time is the railroad.  However they are seeking to expand their collection  to include the Pennsylvania Canal as well as the road systems.

The Society operates a transportation museum on the second floor of the former HUNT signal tower at 5th and & Allegheny St., Huntingdon. This is an ideal location for train-watching, as well as viewing the vintage photographs, maps, and artifacts that tell the history of the railroads built in Huntingdon County in the 19th century. Changing technology is also apparent as museum visitors compare the rolling stock shown in the photographs with the modern trains that pass on the nearby tracks.

The materials displayed were donated to the museum by members and friends of the Society.  Its activities, including the operation of the museum, are sustained by member's annual dues and by additional donations from members and friends.  A quarterly newsletter keeps members informed.  New members are always welcome.

Various transportation-related items, including books, photographs, and a Christmas ornament, are offered to raise funds for the museum.  For further information on these items, or to answer any questions concerning the Society or the museum, please call the number listed below or drop in during regular operating hours.
